We condemn the irresponsible and unfounded accusations
against the
government of Venezuela
after the attack perpetrated in Caracas
on
January 30 against the synagogue.
In many emails, blogs and several newspaper articles, the attack on
the synagogue is linked to a "resurgence of anti-semitism", while it
is deliberately omitted that the government of Venezuela has condemned
the attack and that the police of that country conducted intense
investigations to apprehend the guilty. This leaves no place for
doubts that a campaign is being orchestrated against the government of
Venezuela.
We consider particularly symptomatic that such accusations
are repeated first and foremost by the very same actors who yesterday
applauded and still applaud the Israeli army as it massacred 1400
Palestinians in Gaza,
more than half of them civilians, among them 400
children, and the destruction of schools, hospitals, public buildings
and MOSQUES.
It is also revealing that this campaign was launched a few days after
the President of Venezuela "dared" to position himself against the
actions of the army of Israel
in Gaza, as well as on the eve of the
referendum in which the people of Venezuela will have to decide on a
constitutional reform proposed by the Government. We insist that this
type of seditious campaign, as well as the criminal actions of the
government of Israel
against peace, run the greater danger of
generating anti-Jewish sentiments in reactionary sectors of the
community. Therefore, we vigorously condemn this infamous campaign
against the government of Venezuela.
And we express our satisfaction
with the speed with which the investigations are conducted.
